Hetalia Scanlations
Comic/Manga Translation Filling
21st-Mar-2012 11:41 am
LoviStache
This Post contains links to pages with text and images that need translating and typesetting. I'm currently double-checking the web-comic to make sure I caught everything, but it's slow progress.
Please reply here first to claim which one you want to work on and request assistance if you need help. This is just so we don't have multiple people working on the same thing.

If it's just a one liner you can translate quickly, go ahead and just post the translation.

Please post with the page title for the web manga, or volume & page number for the published manga/books.

Volumes
Since I'm no longer hosting these on my site, you'd probably want to get together with the admin of hetavols on tumblr. I probably need to double check these and make sure this list is up to date...

Volume 1
-Pages 16-17: Table of Contents
-Page 20: Allies Chart
-Pages 50, 55-60: Power Ranger Allied Forces
-Page 64: Snake VS Mongoose
-Page 65: Or it’s more like Gamba VS Noroi

Volume 3
-Page 61: Boss Spain & Chibi Romano (Partly done.)
-Pages 132-133

-Pages 9-27 - these are the profile pages and the table of contents. Any profiles that have been translated thus far I have listed on the Character List, but many of these are missing the flag meaning translations anyway.
-Page 104 - Untranslated text on side and bottom
-(132-133) Bibliography - if anyone dares to tackle this.

Volume 5
-Page 8: Hetalia of the Dead - still lost on what Indian movie that is.
-Pages 132-133: Bibliography

Volume 6
See here

Extra
Character Notes
-Little bit of text at the top and bottom of the page.

Volume 4 Omake - Need to fix this up some
-Text on Nyotalia wallpaper page
-Asian wallpaper page text

Memo Page (March)
-(Unless I missed it) The comic at the very bottom with Japan and Greece needs translating.
http://www.geocities.jp/himaruya/3gatu.html (There's a translation of this that wiccat did with the vol 5 profiles)

Pre-Release Hetalia the Manga Interviews
-This is its own subsection and has various bits of untranslated text. It had stuff like voice clips, but most of them are lost, unless anyone has a back up, I only got a couple backed up.

Birz
I'm not sure if anyone wants to tackle this, but there was a cute relationship chart/timeline section in the March 2012 issue of Comic Birz. Someone started translating it, but they never finished. Post was deleted.

"そういえばドイツでもあいさつはキスなんですね。
この間のドイツのおんにゃにょこにしてもらったです。
(右、左の頬に一回ずつって言うやつです)
ドイツでも年配の人握手で済ますこともおおいとか。
うーんまだまだ海外文化は分からない事だらけだ!
Speaking of, you greet people with kisses even in Germany.
Germany of this time received [word we don't know*]
(He’s said to kiss the right, left cheek one time each.)
It’s also common for the elderly to shake hands in Germany.
Yeeeaaah I’m still a know-nothing about foreign culture."
(image)
"あとドイツ人のはイタリア人に比べると
ちょっと形式ばってるかんじかな?
イタリア人はとにかくハグしたーいキスしたーい!
ってかんじでくっついてくるんですよ(*´∀`*)
If you compare Germans and Italians,
Germans seem to be more formal don’t they?
Italians are like I want to huuuuuuug I want to kiiiiiiiiiss!
And come up to you clinging (*´∀`*)

ちなみにイタリアは左、右の順。
フランス人のはなんか長くて4~5回くらいキスします。
By the way, Italians kiss left, right cheek.
The French kiss for a long 4~5 times."

*The word is おんにゃにょこにして
おんにゃにょこ(onnyanyoko) is a portmanteau of 女の子(onnanoko) or girl and "nya", the sound of a meowing cat. So it's sort of like saying "womyan" or "catgirl." But it's being used like a verb. . .so we're not sure what it'd translate to. If you'd rather wait, I might be able to see if a native Japanese-speaking friend could help me with it, because the sentence doesn't really make sense. . . . That or you could send it the way of the other translators and see if they could help out, provided they aren't too busy.

18th-Jul-2012 12:54 am (UTC) - Re: http://www.hetarchive.net/scanlations/nonlinear.php?rkgk3
What a weird verb. If I catch lost_hitsu online sometime, I'll ask if she knows. But go ahead and check with your native Japanese-speaking friend to see what they say.
18th-Jul-2012 09:39 am (UTC) - Re: http://www.hetarchive.net/scanlations/nonlinear.php?rkgk3
I asked my friend! She(after laughing about my "impossible translation request") said that it was something along the lines of "I received a German-style kiss recently."
18th-Jul-2012 04:03 pm (UTC) - Re: http://www.hetarchive.net/scanlations/nonlinear.php?rkgk3
pff, all right then. I'll go ahead and change it. XD
18th-Jul-2012 05:17 pm (UTC) - Re: http://www.hetarchive.net/scanlations/nonlinear.php?rkgk3
Okay, I got that updated. I changed the comma between the "right, left" parts into an "and" so it reads a bit smoother.

Only thing that still needs translating is that one image with the chibi guy and girl.

I'm not completely sure what that fourth character is though... The rest looks like: ドイツ? あいさつ~してもらった。
That fourth character looks almost like 辻, but of course I can't make out the context to know if that makes sense. XD;
18th-Jul-2012 05:57 pm (UTC) - Re: http://www.hetarchive.net/scanlations/nonlinear.php?rkgk3
Haha, she was doing that wild kind of sleepy and I didn't bother to correct it, so thank you!

Also, looking at that picture, I'm wondering if he meant "I received one from a girl recently" or something like that. Since the chibi kissing him(?) is a girl, I think. . .and doitsu no onnyanyoko is German womyan/moe German woman, I guess. . . .
But it gets the point across, what we have, I think.

Grace(@desuraven) said she doesn't think that's it. . .not enough strokes and, even if we chalk it up to his handwriting something about the bottom radical. I'm not sure. ;o;a Maybe one of the others will know better?
18th-Jul-2012 07:04 pm (UTC) - Re: http://www.hetarchive.net/scanlations/nonlinear.php?rkgk3
Maybe if we change "(He’s said to kiss the right, left cheek one time each.)" to "(She said..." we can get around it that way? Since I don't believe the speaker's gender is stated.

And yeah, I know what she means on that kanji I listed, the bottom radical is supposed to sweep under the other one. But it's the only radical I could find that looked anything close to what he wrote in his terrible handwriting. XD (Also that tiny し on the してもらった. What the heck is up with that, Himaruya? ;w; or that つ, I thought at first it was っ. It's no wonder a lot of his handwritten stuff doesn't get translated.)
18th-Jul-2012 07:15 pm (UTC) - Re: http://www.hetarchive.net/scanlations/nonlinear.php?rkgk3
He used やつ, though, and that means "guy?"

I wonder if people ever ask Himaruya to type out what he's written so they can understand it better. . .then again, he said he knew how bad his handwriting was--maybe even he can't read it after a while. . . . (If the て was written less clearly I could've mistaken that for an い. . .but, yeah, I don't really blame anyone for it. . .I find it kind of funny that it isn't nearly as bad in English.)
18th-Jul-2012 11:17 pm (UTC) - Re: http://www.hetarchive.net/scanlations/nonlinear.php?rkgk3
Pff, I missed the yatsu while skimming, sorry.

I'm not sure if anyone's asked him to clarify his writing, or it's possible they've asked but he doesn't answer? He's not answering anything right now, so it probably wouldn't matter if we asked. DX

I like seeing him write in English, it's cute.
24th-Jul-2012 02:36 am (UTC) - Re: http://www.hetarchive.net/scanlations/nonlinear.php?rkgk3
I have a Japanese friend who looked over the image and replied to me:

It's read as:
ドイツ式(しき)あいさつしてもらった
He forgot to add a dot in the upper right in the kanji, I think. xD Maybe it is translated to "I was given a greeting in the German way"? I am not confident that the English translation I made makes sense though, hope this helps!

I didn't ask her about the onnyanyoko though. I'll do that too and see if she can make more sense of it.

Oh! That's really helpful--thank you both!

Okey. It'll be good to get a second opinion.

Did this one while I was at it.

27th-Jul-2012 10:14 pm (UTC) - Re: http://www.hetarchive.net/scanlations/nonlinear.php?rkgk3
This is her reply on the other part, I'm hoping this is helpful.

If I understand correctly, Himaruya-sensei is talking about his experience in this part, isn't it? :)
Maybe この間のドイツのおんにゃにょこにしてもらったです。should be:
この間、ドイツの女の子に(ドイツ式あいさつを)してもらったです。
In formal writing, you might want to write してもらいました, but not してもらったです though. xD
おんにゃにょこ is a childish/cute way to say おんなのこ, I think. You might find they writing おにゃのこ or something like that as おんなのこ somewhere as well, but it's the same as おんにゃにょこ. :)
28th-Jul-2012 02:13 am (UTC) - Re: http://www.hetarchive.net/scanlations/nonlinear.php?rkgk3
Oooh, then I was right! Yes, it was helpful!

What we should have should be something along the lines of "Recently, I recieved a German-style kiss from a German woman." or maybe "Recently I recieved a German woman's kiss", perhaps?

https://docs.google.com/document/d/10zkrA9VaZy5nIY0sftD4TcN0QkbmTW7s8PmywU0VxEA/edit
@desuraven did this! It's the Switzerland path for Cleaning Prussia! If it's unclear who's speaking/what's narration, I'll see if she can take care of that--I think Switzerland's text was green. (We had to use a video we found of the game since the filehost Himaruya was using no longer allows downloads. . . .)
By the way, there doesn't seem to be a link to the game page in the Extras sextion even though that's where the URL says it should be? Then again, it's still on horror-vacui, too.
22nd-Aug-2012 02:02 pm (UTC)
That's awesome!

I keep forgetting to move that page over to the new domain. I guess this'll give me a good excuse to move it. I'll have to wait a bit though, we're taking a sudden vacation to the coast for a day. @A@
22nd-Aug-2012 07:34 pm (UTC)
D: Haha, well, it isn't urgent. o/ Have fun! It's good to take a break every once in a while, so don't worry to much and just relax!
4th-Sep-2012 06:45 pm (UTC)
I finally got to moving the kusoge translations to hetarchive.net. I was wondering, if desuraven isn't able to clarify where the lines go, if you had a link to that video so I could try to set it out myself? I had a copy of Kusoge on my drive, but I can't get it to work now. It keeps freezing. =A=;

Anyway, this is where the translations will be: http://hetarchive.net/games/kusoge/ I figured I'd wait to finish Switzerland before updating the links on the site.

(P.S. unrelated, but I remember you offered to typeset the "track" titles for Vol. 5? Are you still willing/able to do that? Lost Hitsu gave me the title translations for the site, but I don't have the time atm to typeset those pages.)
4th-Sep-2012 07:01 pm (UTC)
\o/! Aaah, I'd ask her, but I don't think she's online right now. Probably in class. the video is here, though! And it won't work unless your computer's locale is set to Japanese? :(a

(Yeah, I can do it! I still have the "raw"/cleaned files, after all. o7)
4th-Sep-2012 07:14 pm (UTC)
Hmm, the video is working for me. Cool. I'll try to work with it! Thanks!

(Sorry, I forgot, the track translations are at the bottom here: http://www.hetarchive.net/scanlations/volumes.php )

EDIT: And I got the text added, that was perfect~

Edited at 2012-09-04 08:20 pm (UTC)
4th-Sep-2012 09:27 pm (UTC)
Oh, when i said "it" I meant the game, not the video! Luckily. Unless changing your system locale would let you bypass youtube regional restrictions, but I think that's IPs and not the computer itself. . . .

All done! /o/!! Hurray! It looks great! Though, Switzerland's last two lines of dialogue aren't in pink like they should be?
5th-Sep-2012 02:51 am (UTC)
Ohh, that's probably it. When I played it before I was using my laptop, which at the time I had switched to Japanese. XD I had enabled Japanese on this computer, but it's just for language input. Hrmm.

Thanks for pointing out those lines to me! I fixed them!

And thanks for the typesetting, that looks great! I'll get them added in.
12th-Sep-2012 01:57 pm (UTC) - Main Storyline
"Refuses to work if there aren't any women around, but if they are, he refuses too." - or so it seems.

"Axis countries" - The term originally comes from the name of the axis that connected Germany's Berlin and Italy's Rome.
12th-Sep-2012 02:51 pm (UTC) - Re: Main Storyline
Thank you! I added these!
8th-Nov-2012 12:05 am (UTC) - a comic I ran into?
tp://www.geocities.jp/himaruya/2koma.gif
Italy trying to imitate Romano(while still being himself haha)

Is it new? (That is, new to you--an old comic you don't recognize.)

Italy: Yo! Potato!
Give me a hug! Huug!

Germany: Why is it that you're doing something like your brother's behavior?(wow that sounds really broken)
Italy: I was quickly exposed!

If need be, I'll scanlate it!
8th-Nov-2012 03:17 am (UTC) - Re: a comic I ran into?
I don't recognize that comic at all. oAo Nice find! If you want to scanlate it, go ahead.
8th-Nov-2012 04:27 am (UTC) - Re: a comic I ran into?
Well the Italy brothers' atwiki provided a list of all of their apperences and every doodle they were in, and I was going through it for art I missed, and that was at the top! ;3; I haven't finished going through it, but if there's anything else unfamiliar, I'll let you know!(By the way, it also gave the original filenames for "Holy Rome's Imaginary Chibitalia" and the "HRE is No More" strip, in case it was of interest, though no dates, unfortunately)

I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't post some of the scanlations/translations of old things to the main comm. . .I'm sure some people would be interested, though I don't know if I should use the "official: blog" tag for fear of startling people following it for an update from Himaruya. . . . Anyway.

Is this too hard to read? ;3; I wanted to stick with the same font color as the original text so it didn't look too weird, but I could darken it if you think it'd be better?
I HAD TO DELETE AND SEND THIS TO IMGUR LIKE SEVEN TIMES BECAUSE "WAIT I COULD MAKE IT "OLDER BROTHER", IT'D BE MORE READABLE" "OOPS, I DIDN'T "ALIGN" THAT "YOU", LET ME DO IT AGAIN" "OH, WAIT, I LEFT THE TOP PANEL'S TEXT IN THE WRONG FONT" BUT I FINALLY GOT IT RIGHT.
14th-Nov-2012 08:58 am (UTC)
Does this strip look familiar? Since I was going through the image lists I've seen it enough times to be familiarized with it, but I don't think it was translated?

[Original text and translation--I like to think the title of this comic was 'Old Men']よっ日本 そろそろ日の丸俺に売る気になったかな?

Whee, so much to go through. I hope you don't mind, but I let Sammich redo the typsetting on this one and the Germany and Italy one. Let me know how these look:

http://www.hetarchive.net/scanlations/files/2koma.gif
http://www.hetarchive.net/scanlations/files/ossa.gif

I think you should definitely post them on the main comm (and tumblr if you use that). Just use the "Official: Scanlation" tag I guess? That probably fits them best. After you do that, I'll add them to hetarchive under the "deleted" section.
15th-Nov-2012 02:50 am (UTC)
Haha, sorry! 'w'; I don't really mind, though Grece's font was actually different from all the other fonts in the text, which is why I initially had them different(and it's missing the emphasis France made by using katakana, even if that's a really small, possibly unnoticeable difference lol just my preference) Also, "cat ears" was typed over "these" to show what he was pointing at--I just put it in parenthesis to maybe help along(and I couldn't fit it where I wanted it to go in my typeset.) But I don't mind! '3' I think they look great!

I use tumblr, I just haven't used mine in a while. But I guess I can do that, yeah. And, really, these weren't deleted at all--the pages they were on was? But I guess that's pretty much the same thing haha. Okay, I'll post them there once I restart my computer, since Windows Update is nagging me, I suppose! Next time I do this sort of thing, I'll let you know before I post it there, just so you can have it up first and can help me work anything out.
15th-Nov-2012 03:34 am (UTC)
Oh! I'll ask her about switching Greece's font to a handwritten one.

The nekomimi part is difficult, because the parenthetical "cat ears" is too small to read on yours. I'll see if we can come up with something that's not so hard to read... why did he even need to have the furigana? XD Why didn't he just write nekomimi in the first place? ahaha
15th-Nov-2012 03:44 am (UTC)
o7 It's on tumblr and about to go on LJ right now--I'm linking Sammich's rescanlations, too(hopefully there won't be hotlinking--don't wanna strain your server or anything.)

Well, he's actually pointing at them and it'd be weird if he said "you like cat ears"? I guess it isn't France-like!? Plus Japanese, the vague language and all. But he was pointing, but the textbox sort of got in the way of his hand, so it may not have been visible. Idk! Himaruya's strange sometimes. 'w'; But I understand about the too-small text. I kind of had to work with what I had(and the furigana was a bit hard to read in the first place lol) so that works!
15th-Nov-2012 03:53 am (UTC)
You can hotlink from our site, I don't mind!

I'll fix the text a bit later, we're watching a movie atm! I'll get something to emulate the furigana...

What's your tumblr, btw?
15th-Nov-2012 04:49 am (UTC)
/flips LJ for having notifs down

It's exinspired! I haven't been using it at all lately because I'm trying to do other things. Here's the post by the way.
15th-Nov-2012 05:52 am (UTC)
Thanks! And I fixed the typesetting on that file, if you refresh it! It should meet what you pointed out! Let me know if there's anything else!

I'm confused now as to where I should shove these on the scanlation site, since they're just homeless strips. hmm... Added them on the Extra section as "Homeless Strips".

I was randomly going through the list and the link for the partial translated relationship chart from the March 2012 Birz issue is broken. Were there any copies saved or will it need to be redone entirely?
28th-Apr-2013 01:20 am (UTC)
Sorry, missed this. I don't recall if I saved it or not. I think it was just a text translation. It probably would need to be redone entirely.
19th-Jul-2014 05:21 am (UTC)
I translated some of the one liners:

Comic Diary 10
