Hetalia Scanlations
Comic/Manga Translation Filling
21st-Mar-2012 11:41 am
This Post contains links to pages with text and images that need translating and typesetting. I'm currently double-checking the web-comic to make sure I caught everything, but it's slow progress.
Please reply here first to claim which one you want to work on and request assistance if you need help. This is just so we don't have multiple people working on the same thing.

If it's just a one liner you can translate quickly, go ahead and just post the translation.

Please post with the page title for the web manga, or volume & page number for the published manga/books.

Since I'm no longer hosting these on my site, you'd probably want to get together with the admin of hetavols on tumblr. I probably need to double check these and make sure this list is up to date...

Volume 1
-Pages 16-17: Table of Contents
-Page 20: Allies Chart
-Pages 50, 55-60: Power Ranger Allied Forces
-Page 64: Snake VS Mongoose
-Page 65: Or it’s more like Gamba VS Noroi
-Page 72: Germany phone call
-Comic from back cover

Volume 2
-Pages 90-92: Middle-Age England’s Clothes and Hair (book version has some altered text)
-Pages 94-100: The Battle for America (book version has some altered text)
-Pages 114-118: Ghost Culture of England and Japan (book version has some altered text)

Volume 3
-Page 61: Boss Spain & Chibi Romano (Partly done.)
-Pages 132-133

Volume 4
-Pages 9-27 - these are the profile pages and the table of contents. Any profiles that have been translated thus far I have listed on the Character List, but many of these are missing the flag meaning translations anyway.
-Page 104 - Untranslated text on side and bottom
-(132-133) Bibliography - if anyone dares to tackle this.

Volume 5
-Page 8: Hetalia of the Dead - still lost on what Indian movie that is.
-Pages 132-133: Bibliography

Volume 6
See here

Character Notes
-Little bit of text at the top and bottom of the page.

Volume 4 Omake - Need to fix this up some
-Text on Nyotalia wallpaper page
-Asian wallpaper page text

Memo Page (March)
-(Unless I missed it) The comic at the very bottom with Japan and Greece needs translating.
http://www.geocities.jp/himaruya/3gatu.html (There's a translation of this that wiccat did with the vol 5 profiles)

Pre-Release Hetalia the Manga Interviews
-This is its own subsection and has various bits of untranslated text. It had stuff like voice clips, but most of them are lost, unless anyone has a back up, I only got a couple backed up.

I'm not sure if anyone wants to tackle this, but there was a cute relationship chart/timeline section in the March 2012 issue of Comic Birz. Someone started translating it, but they never finished. Post was deleted.

Speaking of, you greet people with kisses even in Germany.
Germany of this time received [word we don't know*]
(He’s said to kiss the right, left cheek one time each.)
It’s also common for the elderly to shake hands in Germany.
Yeeeaaah I’m still a know-nothing about foreign culture."
If you compare Germans and Italians,
Germans seem to be more formal don’t they?
Italians are like I want to huuuuuuug I want to kiiiiiiiiiss!
And come up to you clinging (*´∀`*)

By the way, Italians kiss left, right cheek.
The French kiss for a long 4~5 times."

*The word is おんにゃにょこにして
おんにゃにょこ(onnyanyoko) is a portmanteau of 女の子(onnanoko) or girl and "nya", the sound of a meowing cat. So it's sort of like saying "womyan" or "catgirl." But it's being used like a verb. . .so we're not sure what it'd translate to. If you'd rather wait, I might be able to see if a native Japanese-speaking friend could help me with it, because the sentence doesn't really make sense. . . . That or you could send it the way of the other translators and see if they could help out, provided they aren't too busy.

What a weird verb. If I catch lost_hitsu online sometime, I'll ask if she knows. But go ahead and check with your native Japanese-speaking friend to see what they say.

@desuraven did this! It's the Switzerland path for Cleaning Prussia! If it's unclear who's speaking/what's narration, I'll see if she can take care of that--I think Switzerland's text was green. (We had to use a video we found of the game since the filehost Himaruya was using no longer allows downloads. . . .)
By the way, there doesn't seem to be a link to the game page in the Extras sextion even though that's where the URL says it should be? Then again, it's still on horror-vacui, too.
22nd-Aug-2012 02:02 pm (UTC)
That's awesome!

I keep forgetting to move that page over to the new domain. I guess this'll give me a good excuse to move it. I'll have to wait a bit though, we're taking a sudden vacation to the coast for a day. @A@

I finally got to moving the kusoge translations to hetarchive.net. I was wondering, if desuraven isn't able to clarify where the lines go, if you had a link to that video so I could try to set it out myself? I had a copy of Kusoge on my drive, but I can't get it to work now. It keeps freezing. =A=;

Anyway, this is where the translations will be: http://hetarchive.net/games/kusoge/ I figured I'd wait to finish Switzerland before updating the links on the site.

(P.S. unrelated, but I remember you offered to typeset the "track" titles for Vol. 5? Are you still willing/able to do that? Lost Hitsu gave me the title translations for the site, but I don't have the time atm to typeset those pages.)
12th-Sep-2012 01:57 pm (UTC) - Main Storyline
"Refuses to work if there aren't any women around, but if they are, he refuses too." - or so it seems.

Kitchen in crisis

Pasta... so good...

We got arrested again.

Thank you for the applause (´ー`*) (reaaaally not sure about this one but turned it in every possible way and doesn't make sense otherwise)
The national charcter that comes up when they get arrested.

After a meeting...

Always be careful when strangling somebody bare-handed! (link leads to Japanese How To Strangle page)

The trembling trio (lit. All three trembling and being nervous together but this sounds better imo)

(feel free to re-scanlate, I realize the font is ugly but with this resolution there wasn't much I could do)

"Axis countries" - The term originally comes from the name of the axis that connected Germany's Berlin and Italy's Rome.
12th-Sep-2012 02:51 pm (UTC) - Re: Main Storyline
Thank you! I added these!
8th-Nov-2012 12:05 am (UTC) - a comic I ran into?
Italy trying to imitate Romano(while still being himself haha)

Is it new? (That is, new to you--an old comic you don't recognize.)

Italy: Yo! Potato!
Give me a hug! Huug!

Germany: Why is it that you're doing something like your brother's behavior?(wow that sounds really broken)
Italy: I was quickly exposed!

If need be, I'll scanlate it!
8th-Nov-2012 03:17 am (UTC) - Re: a comic I ran into?
I don't recognize that comic at all. oAo Nice find! If you want to scanlate it, go ahead.
14th-Nov-2012 08:58 am (UTC)
Does this strip look familiar? Since I was going through the image lists I've seen it enough times to be familiarized with it, but I don't think it was translated?

[Original text and translation--I like to think the title of this comic was 'Old Men']よっ日本 そろそろ日の丸俺に売る気になったかな?

Yo, Japan
Won't you feel like selling me the Japanese flag any time soon?

い… いやですよ 大事なものですし
U. . .unfortunately, no
It's a very important thing

それに なんですかその頭の変なものは…
Those strange things on your head are. . .

ほら(ねこみみ) お前コレ好きだろ サービスって奴?
Look!(cat ears)
It seems you like /these/
Would you call this a service?

うーん おじさん猫耳どうかと 思います…
I think. . .
Someway or another, a cat-eared older man. . . .

おっさ… おっさんって言われた!
Old. . .you called me an old man!
When you say that, that guy's an /old man/, for sure!

I never--

う、 うん
Old man.

SLIGHT FORMATTING ERROR in the original--forgot some italics that's all.

Whee, so much to go through. I hope you don't mind, but I let Sammich redo the typsetting on this one and the Germany and Italy one. Let me know how these look:

I think you should definitely post them on the main comm (and tumblr if you use that). Just use the "Official: Scanlation" tag I guess? That probably fits them best. After you do that, I'll add them to hetarchive under the "deleted" section.
23rd-Apr-2013 06:20 pm (UTC)
I was randomly going through the list and the link for the partial translated relationship chart from the March 2012 Birz issue is broken. Were there any copies saved or will it need to be redone entirely?
28th-Apr-2013 01:20 am (UTC)
Sorry, missed this. I don't recall if I saved it or not. I think it was just a text translation. It probably would need to be redone entirely.
19th-Jul-2014 05:21 am (UTC)
I translated some of the one liners:

Comic Diary 10
"The centre lower-left banner of Liechtenstein's Football Association doesn't hide their excitement."

Opening of the Meeting at the Center of the World
"Bonus: British English and American English are different"
いあつかん = "Intimidating"

Who’s Been Drawing These Pictures?
"In the scenes of the Allied meetings, who on earth draws the usual profile drawings of the 3 Axis powers??"

The Christmas 2009 strips
"The Barjona members after a while."
24th-Jul-2014 06:54 pm (UTC)
Yaaay! Thank you for these!
